Patient Notice- Reception & Dispensing area update at our Keyworth site

We understand that some patient may have questions or concerns regarding the recent changes to our reception & dispensary desk.

Please be assured that all the updates were carefully planned with patient confidentiality, staff safety, and accessibility in mind.

The new lower reception desk is in line with the Disability Discriminations Act (DDA). Making our services more accessible for patients with wheelchairs or mobility aids.

Although there is no physical safety screen at reception in front of our desk, the decision was made following an assessment. Which showed a low risk based on previous incident data with VHG and local crime statistics. In addition, we have a discrete panic alarm system to support staff safety.

Safety screens that were previously installed during covid presented several issues, including making it difficult for patients and staff to hear each other clearly, which led to louder voices which meant conversations were less discrete. They also interfered with the function of our hearing loop systems for patients with hearing impairments.

The distance between the reception desk & dispensary counter has also been designed to be wider than the space typically found between patients queuing, with a fitted with a partition, helping maintain both confidentiality and safety.

We also understand sometimes we require a little more privacy; a Private space is available if patients who wish to speak to a receptionist in confidence. Or a quitter area for any patients with sensory needs, posters for this are displayed around the surgery.
